Yes/No Maybe 🤣

Firstly it is important to understand that it is the 'Car' that gets programmed to recognise the 'Keyfob' and not as most people think which is they expect the Keyfob to get programmed.

There are effectively two separate parts of the Keyfob.

(a) The remote locking/unlocking. This is operated by an RF transmitter inside the keyfob and sends a coded signal to the receiver in the car. If the car has be programmed to accept the code from the keyfob then it will lock/unlock the doors.

(b) The security part of the keyfob known as PATS. This is what the car is checking for when you turn the ignition on and start the engine. Inside the keyfob is a small transponder chip with a code, again if the vehicle has been programmed to recognise the code it will allow the engine to start.

So back to the question "can you programme the spare keyfob" ? Well bearing in mind its the car that needs programming the answer is half Yes. That is you can programme the car to recognise the spare keyfob to lock/unlock the doors quite easily. The procedure can normally be found in the owners handbook or video on YouTube. The second half of the answer is No you can't programme the car to recognise the PATS chip and start the engine. It can be done, but you will need to get it done by a Ford dealer, or by an Auto-Locksmith.

Of course you will also need a new metal key blade (eBay) and a local locksmith willing to cut your blank key blade.

The mechanical key (inside) will be useless, but the key can be reprogrammed to your vehicle.

It would need to go to Ford
