Oil Filter Tool.

Featured Replies

Hi All ,

I am planning to change the motor oil, however just wondering if someone could let me know what best tool to take of the oil filter.  I saw some on e-bay, some tools  with the numbers 901,  to  904 printed  , some vendors state it's the 903, but I am not sure. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.

Which engine?  Have you checked to see if you have the metal canister type or the plastic socket type?

Its a Mondeo 2.0 TDI . 2.0L DURATORQ 180PS

Thanks.

That's a metal canister filter.  With a plastic sump and sump plug.

You'll need a 76mm tool to remove the filter.

And make sure you tighten the new filter fairly tight. Did have a habit of coming loose if not extra tight on that engine

Thank you for the answer,  I  wanted to use one of these type of removal tools. Not sure is the 903 or other. I like these type of tools, however don't know which one to buy.

I think I found one , is it 76 mm  with 14 flute?

If in doubt, why not buy a new filter first.... Then you can count the number of flutes (flats)

I think it's safest for you to actually go and buy a filter (which you're going to do anyway) then you'll know for sure how many flutes it's got. THEN go to your local parts shop and buy the correct tool (take the filter with you) Best not to rely on us here as we're only going by the same online info that you are, and it seems to be a bit flawed....

You are 100% correct, I am waiting for the parts, oil, filter, fuel filter etc. I ordered a 9 days ago, should get it tomorrow or Tuesday as holidays.  Meanwhile does not hurt to know what tools I will need. Yesterday just did the gear oil change. Thinking to post some pictures in how to do it.
