moofish
Just joined the forum to see if other Kuga 2021 drivers have experienced 12 v battery failures. Wow thank goodness I am not alone in my abject misery thinking I was the only one in the Country with a 2021 Kuga which suffers with 12v battery failure. The AA have been out 6 times to boost start me after first showing me how to get into a car with no power and the secret of key in the fob. I have learnt their secrets and now can get into the car fairly quickly use a battery charger on the battery terminals under the bonnet and when there is life in the battery enough to open the boot I resort to charging via the battery terminals. The AA taught me the secret of a small battery monitor connect to the battery terminals which will blue tooth to my phone and give me an indication of battery charge . I have spent out on a Blue Smart Charger which has been worth the investment so I can monitor the state of charge. As I am retired I do not need to rush off to work so can leave the battery on a long charge. The leasing company agreed to authorise my local Ford dealer to fit a replacement battery under warranty last August 2022 I having received the car October 2021. However the battery dies on a regular basis involving more charging. I would have thought all Ford dealers should be aware of the 12 volt battery failure nation wide and know how to rectify the problem. I have not been told about the computer updates or fixes that some modern cars need I have only been told by the AA to use the engine instead of the EV power so the battery gets some charge. Thought the idea of a Hybrid car was to use the car for short journeys and so save petrol but I tend to drive my car as though it was just Petrol driven.I even invested in a EV wall charger ! negotiations on going with my local dealer to look at the problem again. Unfortunately took a 4 year lease this time instead of 3 so will have to keep complaining as I now know I am not the only one who has the problem with an otherwise enjoyable car to drive.

You could also invest in a jump pack such as the GB40 if you do ever find the battery flat and need the car urgently. NOCO GB40 1000A Jump Starter | Halfords UK I'm interested in the battery monitor that Bluetooth's to your phone. Would you have a link to that? I don't have much knowledge of these particular hybrids, but I thought a PHEV should charge the 12v battery when running on battery power as well as engine power? I wonder if anyone else can confirm that? I do know that a few of the major EV's won't charge the 12v battery when charging the traction battery from the mains. This is often what leaves them 'stranded' despite having the equivalent of a full tank. This is a well known problem though, so I thought Ford would have corrected the programming for a car made in 2021.
