FORD KUGA I 2.0 TDCI 136 HP DIESEL 03.2008 - 11.2012 Gearbox

Hello Members

needs direction and advice. I need to find a gearbox for my 2009 Ford Kuga 2WD Manual. Can anyone help? Does it matter if the gearbox code matches exactly, and what do exact gearbox codes mean? AV4R-7002-AA, 8V4R-7002-AE, and BF They all assert that it is for 2009. I'm really lost. If someone could help me learn, Also, did I need to replace the vehicle speed sensor when I changed the gearbox, as I had read somewhere?

Kind regards,

Rayhan

AV4R is the powertrain or chassis code the "A" meaning 2000 introduction

8V4R same chassis code but 2008 introduction

ALL Ford manual gearboxes are 7002

AA, AE, BF:

The first letter is the derivative i.e.

"A" would be low torque petrol up to "D" for high torque diesel etc

The second letter is the engineering level of the part, when parts are first released at JOB#1, to drawing, they are "A" level engineering. Any modifications to the assemble, during it's life cycle, means a change to the drawing, Each change makes the part go up a level so AB, AC, AD etc etc

Now, you haven't said which one is currently fitted to your vehicle, but let's pretend it's the AV4R-7002-AA.

You can't fit the 8V4R-7002-AE as it's probably a completely different gearbox (maybe six speed or even 2WD, different final drive etc etc)

You can't fit the "BF" because the "B" means it's a different version to your "A"

So you must source a replacement AV4R-7002-AA but if you can find AB AC AD AE AF etc etc, that too will be OK, it just means it's an improved version of the same gearbox

Every day a school day 😀

Thanks Dave for that explanation of the full gearbox code. I only knew what the last two letters were, its always good to learn some useful information 👍
