Moving up to a Mondeo Titanium

Featured Replies

Hi, everyone. This is my first post, and I'm sure it won't be my last!!!

For the last 10 years I've had a Chevrolet Cruze Station Wagon LTZ 1.7 diesel. My best mate from schooldays, David, bought the Mondeo in 2016. He became ill a couple of years ago, and sadly died earlier this year. He used the car less frequently until last December, when it was parked up. His widow has a licence, but hasn't driven since she passed her test many years ago. The car was an embarrassment to her: so we came to an agreement that I would buy it from her.

It is, of course, a beautiful car, and has covered less than 25,000 miles. However, I am having some difficulty "transferring" my brain to Ford think from General Motors. I have read the handbook and played with the switches but there are some areas I would like to change, and can't seem to.

1. I don't like the keyless entry for security reasons. At times the car will be parked up with £5,000 of photographic gear in the boot. I recently took it to Perry's, Ford Dealers in Worksop. They apparently tried 3 different ways to delete it but couldn't. I have 2  Faraday pouches...one blocks the signal one doesn't. Is there a way of deleting keyless entry?

2. The Chevrolet had the option of a digital speedo readout, selected using the mpg etc stalk on the steering column. Perry's say it isn't an option on my instrument cluster. Do I buy an add-on digital speedo or use an app on my smart phone to get back to a digital readout?

3. I transferred my dashcam from the Chevrolet and plugged it into the cigarette lighter in the front central console. But it never switches off. I gather it can be programmed to switch off after a time, but how? I have used the cigarette lighter in the rear of the console which does switch off.

4.  Are all Titaniums of that age four wheel drive?

I'm sure there will be other things which I shall find puzzling, but sorting these out will do for now!

Car registration is EF 65 EBD

Thanks in anticipation,

Keith Robinson

Hi Keith,

Welcome, but sorry to learn of the sad circumstances in which you acquired your car.

Mk 5 Mondeos are predominantly FWD, so you may have quite a rare beast there, I think 4WD was about £1500 as an option.

Get your self FORScan on a decent Windows laptop and either the V-Linker or OBDLink EX lead and turn off passive entry, something your dealer could've done easily

I believe you need to update the firmware in the instrument cluster for this to work, search Modeo forums and American Fusion forums

You can buy a piggy back harness and hard wire into an ignition live circuit on the fuse box

NO

Your  Mondeo is a rare 4wd version. Dealer were able to disable keyless entry. I've done it myself on my Mondeo when I had it. As for digital Speedo. If you have the digital cluster then the digital Speedo can be enabled via forscan too. Done that also.

Edit, just checked and the disable keyless procedure has been removed, so I take back . The dealer can no longer do this. Forscan should though.
