Throttle body control

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2012 Grand C Max with an engine management light on, I've scanned it and came back with throttle body control module, I cleaned it it, erased the code it came back. I replaced the throttle body, erased the code and came back. Any ideas on what I could be?

-No loss of power

-No limp mode

-No erratic revs

I was thinking maybe MAF sensor but is this likely? I would have thought the error would point to that rather than throttle body?

Thanks in advance

Are you using FORScan to check for the DTC's ?

If you've fitted a replacement, that too could be faulty.

Try resetting: (Takes deeeeeep breath)

Turn on ignition, DO NOT start engine

TURN OFF ALL ACCESSORIES (Lights, Radio A/C, fan etc etc)

Lower drivers window, close doors

Disconnect battery negative cable

Cover negative pole on battery so as to prevent contact with cable

Disconnect battery positive cable

Touch negative a positive battery cable together and hold for about 5 minutes (make sure they cannot touch the battery terminals

Reconnect positive cable

Reconnect negative cable

TURN ON IGNITION BUT DO NOT START ENGINE

Ensure all the accessories are still turned off

Start engine but DO NOT TOUCH THROTTLE PEDAL - at all, for any reason, if the engine takes forever to start just let it crank until it finally starts

Leave car to idle until it reaches normal operating temperature DO NOT TOUCH THROTTLE PEDAL

Turn on a/c and fan DO NOT TOUCH THROTTLE PEDAL

Leave to idle for a further one minute

Turn off engine, remove key, open and close driver's door, restart engine as normal

Wow that seems like a lot lol. Quick question would this be required even with Forscan?

Yes, it's the only way to recalibrate a new/replacement throttle body.

Thanks Dave, much appreciated.

Last one from me, do I need to wipe the EML light or can I do the above with it on?

Should correct itself and go out IF it's a calibration issue

Hi all,

I've tried the recalibration and went off for a few days then came back, the accelerator pedal is showing 15 degrees at idle, from what I can tell this is normal?

Is there anything I should be checking because at the minute I am at a loss, I took it to Ford to have it scanned, all they did was tell me the throttle body was at fault and they cleared the code (I could've done this myself). I can see that there are numerous other people with the same issue but no one actually reports back as to what it was and how to fix.

Thanks in advance

Take the cover off the side and carefully clean the contacts and lubricate, see if that cures it.

Hi Al,

I found another forum that had the exact same problem as myself, tried different throttle bodies, reset and recalibrate. The DPF got full eventually due to not being able to do a regen on its own so I had to remove that to clean manually... not the most fun of jobs. I would post the other forum on here but I am unsure of the rules, if someone says I can then I'll update after.

In case anyone else on the internet is having this issue and not knowing where else to go, check your wiring, we checked the connections from the throttle body plug to the wiring near the battery and found no continuity, there was a break in the wire somewhere.

We had to get behind the gearbox where some Ford employee thought it may be a good idea to pull the zip tie so hard that it pretty much broke the the outer casing of the Green/Blue wire and another wire, I have attached a picture bearing in mind I hadn't pulled on anything and that is how I found it.

Reconnected the wires, soldered and electrical taped it and forced a regen and it went through no issues, light was reset and everything seems so much more responsive.

I just hope this can help someone in the future considering my car is over 13 years old.
