Front Wiper Fault

Featured Replies

On random occasions when I turn on the front wipers they will move very slowly regardless of switch position. Usually turning off then on cures the issue but this morning I turned off and that was it. Nothing.

Any ideas please.

Well rain was still coming down but Wife needed car in morning so when she came home I had to investigate.

Wipers off, plastic trim panel off. Removed two bolts holding wiper motor and wriggled it free. I disconnected the supply and checked feeds.

Two 12 volt supply and 2 earths, I assumed this to be correct. There was some corrosion around the splines and various joints.

I loosened the nut in the centre of the motor, removed the washers and knocked out the splines. I greased these, reinserted and greased all moving parts.

So two hours later soaked through and working by torchlight I refitted the rebuilt motor. Beware of dropping the rubber grommets !

Reconnected and secured I operated the motor to set wipers then rebuilt. All now works fine so fingers crossed that's it, hope this helps someone.

I also noted that the drain in the plenum was blocked so there was quite a puddle in there. Clear this out before rebuilding.
