coolant light comes on

Featured Replies

I have a very odd problem with my Ka (1.3 44kw 1998).

It happens that sometimes, especially in summer, after that I have started the engine and took her on the streets, from 1 to 5 minutes later the coolant light comes on, the car breaks immediately like if it shut down, and then it comes off.

Me and my mechanic checked and we found just a tiny leak from a hose, but that can't be the problem.

I have also Checked if the engine overheated but it runs perfectly at 90° C.

I hope someone have some advice and maybe could have a solution or knows the problem.

Thanks

Just did a quick search out of interest - quite a lot of "hits" so not uncommon it seems.

A few hints here:

It does seem from a cursory glance that, like the Ford ecoboost, any loss of coolant and the engine could be toast very quickly.

mine is mk1

It could just be a sticking thermostat that causes the engine temperature to overheat for just a very short time before it opens and begins to work normally.

It could be worth just replacing the thermostat just to rule it out as the cause of the problem.

Yes, sorry.

As unofix says, check thermostat, could be sticking

Check engine temperature sensor and wiring for damage
