Clutch Replacement Cost

Featured Replies

My Focus has died and thinking about replacing it with a Mondeo estate. Budget means it's going to be something around 7 years old with 100k+ on the clock. I'd expect the cam belt to have been done but chances are it will still be on the original clutch. How much should I expect a clutch replacement to be for a 2.0 Tdci from a non Ford garage.

Thanks

I think you'd be quicker just calling the garage and asking them mate.

I couldn't tell you what this cost, but my DMF failed on my Mondeo, so I thought I'd give it a go and change the clutch and slave cylinder at the same time. You have to drop the sub-frame, which means in addition to the driveshafts you need everything off, power steering, suspension arms. The gearbox weighs a ***** ton, getting it back in and aligned is a total PITA, and then you have to realign the subframe.

I've never done one before and did this with no specialist tools in my driveway, so it's simple enough if I can do it, but it's not the easiest clutch to change so will be priced accordingly. Unless I'm mistake I don't think the Focus needs a sub-frame dropped.

That said, if the clutch works when I bought the car, I wouldn't worry about it. On a 100k+ car there's a lot of other things that can go wrong before worrying about the clutch?

Rough ballpark £500-£700 for clutch & DMF replacement at an independent garage.

I've had several cars on the original clutch over 100k though.  So as above, wouldn't be my main concern.

Indeed. Unless the clutch or DMF is showing clear signs of being close to knackered, just enjoy the car. My 2005 MK2 Focus 1.8 TDCi is currently on 189K miles and still on it's original clutch and DMF. Admittedly the DMF is now quite rattly, but is totally fine once in gear.
