Hi guys I'm a newbie so bare with me.

I have a smax sport 2.0 66 plate.

It has developed a starting problem not all the time it can happen in traffic or when its run for a while and parked up.

When it trys it makes a crancking noise but nothing happens.

I've replaced the battery and starter motor thinking it would cure it but it has just started doing it again it says after a while, exceeded to many cranks, nothing can be found from the code reader.

Anyone had the same fault.

Unless you are using the Ford main dealers equipment to read the DTC's then it's quite common not to be able to see any codes.

You can use FORScan on a windows laptop connected with a vLinker FS lead and there is a 99% chance that it will read the DTC's if there are any. If you don't have a windows laptop then there is a FORScan Lite version available for use with a mobile phone. You will need the vLinker FD dongle for an android phone or the vLinker FD+ dongle for an iPhone.

So basically I've got to take it in to a ford garage instead of a local one.

Or as said above use FORScan which is as close as it gets to Ford main dealer equipment.
