Mk4 mondeo hidden buttons behind dash

Featured Replies

Hi I don't know if anyone can shed some light on this. I've got an mk4 mondeo hatchback 1.8 tdci econetic and I have found two buttons behind the dash a green one and a red one? each buttons has to wires going to them. Plus I have also found an old style computer port behind the dash  on the drivers side. I would take pictures but it's in the garage thanks for any information m wheeler

What shape computer port?  Sounds like it may have been modified for emergency services.  Or James Bond.

Just make sure that you are not sat in the passenger seat when you press the 'Red Button' 😉

The 'computer port'is probably the On Board Diagnostics (OBD) port that cars have been mandated to have for many years now. It must be fitted within reach of the driver and is used to diagnose car electrical faults - as well as to steal them on occasion! Google it.

It's only a guess but maybe the green and red buttons are a home fitted anti theft device of some sort.

Nop it's not the obd iv used that. Its an old style one. It's either an vga or a serial port.

We'll need to see pictures then.  That's not standard so must have been modified for a previous owner.

Well, that's definitely not standard, but I don't know what it is.

Does that white plastic module have anything written on it?

That's a buzzer I have no clue what any of it dose

Possibly part of an archaic reverse camera & parking sensor install?

Hopefully someone else has seen it before.

Maybe thanks for the ideas iv never heard it

It's an old fixed car phone installation kit.

Typical of the type used by Motorola and Cellnet

In the computer world that would normally be a 9 pin  RS232 serial communications connector, often used for a PC or laptop to talk to an embedded microprocessor of some sort. What is it connected to?

And have you a clearer picture of the thing with three white connectors? The transparent bits look like two of them may each house an LED but it is to blurry to tell.
