2012 mondeo diesel engine malfunction

My mondeo has recently been flagging up an "engine malfunction" message on the dashboard. The car did have a low battery so I swapped that out for a new one. Still displays the message. Car starts fine, runs fine no knocks or bumps. Even listened to the turbo as I changed gears it kicks in just fine (car is a tdci, not an aftermarket turbo)

No clue about what's going on. Just seeing if any of you guys have Ave encountered this. Is it something to worry about?

    The days of listening to an engine are long gone.

    It needs to be plugged in for the fault codes to be read.  

    Generic OBD2 scanners are unlikely to pick up all fault codes so we recommend something Ford specific such as Forscan.
