Russ66
Hi All I have a 2016 Ford Edge Sport 2.0tdci and whilst driving home last week it suddenly cut out during mild acceleration. Until that point it was running fine! Pulled over switched it off and it restarted straight away! Seemed to run fine until I tried to overtake and guess what? It cut out again. Started up again and steadily drove home. Fitted a new fuel filter and fuel rail pressure sensor. No different! Having had diagnostics done, it was showing fuel pressure regulator low pressure? Cleared the errors and restarted and no errors, until it cuts out again. Has anyone had a similar issue and how did you sort it as it’s doing my head in! Thanks
TomsFocus
Hopefully it's just a weak lift pump in the fuel tank. If it's the high pressure pump they're £600+. The regulator is on the HP pump but not available separately. HP is fitted to the top of the engine on these, driven directly from the camshaft. Russ66
Hi Thanks for the response. I’m guessing it’s the high pressure pump looking at similar mk5 mondeo posts with the same engine. weirdly it doesn’t happen all the time. Just occasionally when accelerating! Pretty scary if overtaking anything! Lol would the lift pump cause similar issues?

If the lift pump is weak, the HP pump simply doesn't get enough fuel supplied to it. Both will generally only cause the car to cut out under higher load where more fuel is required. We tend to get smaller models on here though, so if the Mondeo forum is suggesting the HP pump then I wouldn't argue with that. At least the part is easy enough to replace on these, doesn't require cambelt removal & replacement as many HP pumps do.
simonb65
You might want to change the fuel filter too. No point having pressure if the flow isn't there!
