P0315 Crankshaft Variation Not Learned

Featured Replies

I have an engine warning light lit and the car failed its mot because of this.

Forscan comes up with the DTM shown above.  Anybody know what this means?  One garage has told me the car needs to goto Ford to have the Crankshaft Sensor callibrated but i think they are talking nonsense.  A crankshaft sensor detects a notch in the flywheel, that is all.  What is there to callibrate?

Any ideas where i should start fault finding?  There is no option to do anything with this in Forscan other than reset all adaptions (which i have done already)

yes but that is not a function that is supported on the Ford Ka...  Not quite a Dodge Dart, more like a Fiat 500 🙂

Or are you about to tell me how i can perform this procedure without having to go and buy an Autel MaxiSys at £1000+ ??

If the MIL warning light flashes on the control panel, the engine rpm sensor irregularity learning procedure must be carried out.

- With the engine running, wait for it to warm up (approx. 77°C).

- Press the accelerator at least 3 times until 6000 rpm is reached; after each press, completely release the accelerator pedal and wait until the engine rpm comes down to the minimum value.

- If the MIL warning light is still flashing at the end of the operation, it means that the self-learning is not complete, therefore repeat the operations described above until the warning light stops flashing.

- Turn the engine off and wait a minute for the data to be stored in the permanent memory.

-The Ford diagnostic instrument may be used to find out whether the sensor irregularity has been learnt or not, irrespective of the information displayed on the MIL warning light.

Thanks for the info but the Engine Light does not flash. It is steady on all the time. When deleted with Forscan it immediately comes back on.

interesting to note the car actually starts and drives really nice even with this fault present.
