Help! Cannot open 2011 Mondeo as battery is dead 🪫

Featured Replies

Please help!

Our 2011 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi has been sat for a short while but I cannot now get into it nor will the key blades turn in the driver door outside lock (beyond a little ‘wiggle’, but there’s a lot of resistance).

I saw a brief ‘battery low’ when sat with the radio on and ignition off when last used (about 3wks ago), but just briefly and just the once.

I can’t see anyway to get into it without giving it some juice, but can’t get in to release the bonnet to get to the battery.

Can anyone help with experience of this and how you resolved?  Is there anything to access from underneath to be able to jump up it or is it a case of lifting and seeing if I can release the bonnet catch?

I’m keen not to cause any damage as we need to sell it and aside from this, it’s never given a moments trouble 👉🪵

TIA 👍

Depending on how hands-on you are with stuff, are you able to jack up one side, put it on an axle stand, remove wheel, crawl under car (only if its on an axle stand!) locate the alternator and attach your charger to the thick wire coming off the alternator, and chassis.*  And leave it on charge for a few hours.

*negative lead to chassis.

Yes that will work 👍

As an alternative to connecting to the alternator cable, you can also connect to the main positive cable to the starter solenoid which might be easier to reach on your model.

Think I would spray some WD 40 in the lock and gently wiggle it gently. Should pop eventually !

The OP has not been back to read any of the replies since 30th July. I would hope by now they have found away in or perhaps just bought a bus pass 🤣
