Ka MK2 clutch drag when hot

Featured Replies

Has anyone correctly idethis problem yet? Only way to disengage drive when hot is to turn engine off.. Dealer blamed (experienced) driver's technique and fitted new clutch. Problem recurred after 60min drive. Dealer road-tested , said no fault. An hour into next drive, same problem. Dealer said clutch. But it's new!! I suspect slave cylinder seals  . Heard similar symptoms from other owners, never correctly diagnosed. Anyone got positive info on this?

I thought the clutch was cable on the Ka, not hydraulic?

Ka MK2. Hydraulic.

If you don’t have any luck here it might be worth asking on a fiat 500 forum too. The car is just a rebadge.

Yes, my bad.  They have a conventional fork & bearing type setup but with an external slave cylinder instead of a cable to move the fork.

So I assume the slave wasn't changed along with the clutch kit?  If so, it could be either that or the master cylinder causing this issue.  I doubt it's the clutch unless they used a really cheap brand such as Transmech or similar.  Do you have an invoice showing the brand at all?  And whether the slave was changed at the same time?

If the clutch setup is similar to the MK1, I'd check the level of brake fluid in the reservoir (shared between brakes and clutch in the MK1), followed by bleeding the system at the slave cylinder end to expel any air trapped in the system. Failing this the problem must lie with seals in the master/slave cylinders in the clutch actuating system. BTW the MK1 has a "Concentric slave cylinder" - no fork and the bleed nipple is close to where the hydraulic pipe enters the slave unit. Don't know how a MK2 is laid out. Good luck.
