2009 Mondeo 2.3 Auto - Wont start, no noise at all

Featured Replies

Hey,

I recently discovered that my mondeo wont start at all, I turn the key, all electricals come on including stereo and headlights but there is no noise at all when the key is turned.

I've checked the battery and it seems fine, so my googling is pointing me towards the starter, but I can't find it for the life of me or find any images that show where it should be.

Does anyone happen to know where it would be and/or have a guide on replacing it?

Cheers

It'll naturally be located at the junction where the engine meets the transmission bell housing. More specifically I expect it'll be in the same place as in my 2008 Focus, under the intake manifold.

To remove it, firstly you need to disconnect the battery, then you'll need to undo the two nuts that clamp the wires in place on the "back" of it (there are three but only two need undoing, the third is for a wire from one part of the starter to the other), along with the three bolts that secure it in place. On my Focus, to access these three bolts you have to first remove the air filter box. Again, with my Focus, access to the wires at the back can be achieved one of two ways, either you can raise the car up a bit using axel stands or ramps such that you can get to it from underneath (it is difficult to wrangle it out from beneath but do-able, I've done it), or you can remove the intake manifold to get to it from above, which in my case also required removing the throttle body due to it blocking access to an intake manifold bolt behind it, along with the fuel rail and fuel injectors since the fuel rail was bolted into the air intake, and upon re-tightening the two screws upon reassembly to the required torque the threads stripped, creating a nightmare of plastic repair work. I strongly suggest you get it from underneath if things in your Mondeo are like my Focus.

Good advice above.

2.3 Duratec was a pretty rare engine so difficult to find a picture.

This is a 2.3 EcoBoost but the starter is in the same place to give you a visual idea.
