scary brake moment.

Featured Replies

Today we were returning from a trip out and following a country road when I braked - and the brake pedal literally fell through about half of its travel. Luckily the car did brake and seemed to have regained the correct travel the next time I touched the brake. I tried it again several times and the brakes seemed ok - I was trying to tell whether one diagonal circuit had failed. When we got home I checked and no lost fluid - what do you think? Thanks.

Update - just looked at all 4 corners - no sign of any leaks and pedal is firm.

Possibly ABS kicking in if you were on loose ground.

Thanks! That's what I thought as braking systems don't usually fail and then spontaneously get better again. Cheers. I remember owning an MG Midget MkII (1965) when I was very young - very badly maintained - one day I pressed the brake and the rotten cross-rear axle brake line burst leaving me with no brakes at all - got home at a very slow speed using engine braking and the handbrake. No servo either. I'm glad times have moved on.
