Ford Fiesta 2015 clutch master cylinder.

I have replaced my clutch master cylinder on my 2015 fiesta.  For me it was much harder then I had first thought, although now I know a bit more about how to go about it.  The Haynes manual was not that helpful....I needed more detail.

Anyway the new one is in and I have re-connected the two pipes (top & bottom) to the new master cylinder connectors.  The bottom one clicked on nicely and seems secure.  The top one also clicked on nicely and is securely on.  However this top connector slides up and down on the plastic tube.  I am sure this is probably going to leak.  Somethings wrong!!!  I then tried finding out more on line, and some references were made to an O-ring.  The Haynes manual does not even mention this.

Anyway I had a quick look around the area were the master cylinder comes into the engine apartment and possibly very luckily I noticed a little rubber ring.  I have no clue whether this is what is missing.  I have attached a photo of this O-ring(?).  I have also shown a picture of it pushed onto the plastic pipe of the top master cylinder pipe (I have broken off the top pipe from the master cylinder).  Is this what I need?  Have I pushed it on correctly?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry, I just need to state the obvious, that I have not broken the top pipe from the master cylinder that is in the car.  This is the old one.

That looks like a nipple cover to prevent dirt getting into the part during transportation & fitting.  There's no hole through it is there?

The top pipe has a clip around it.  Is that clip sitting outside of the connector?  It should be pushed in to fit flush with the connector.

Hi Tom, thanks for your input.  Sorry the pics are terrible.  The little rubber O-ring thing does have a hole in it.  Its definitely some sort of rubber connector seal.  I have a strong suspicion that it does have something to do with this top connector I just don't know.  If it is, it will probably be a faff to put it on.  I want to be sure before I try to do that.

The yellow plastic clip around the top seems to be pushed in as far as it can be.  The top of it is not flush with the pipe (it sticks out a bit), but I think that it is probably meant to, so you can get a flat screwdriver under it to clip it out.  It did click when  I pushed the pipe on, the pipe just moves backwards and forwards.  I'm wondering if this rubber O-ring thing stops it from moving and seals the connection???

Ok, I stand corrected there then. :smile:

I've checked the parts catalogues and can't see that part listed anywhere.  It's definitely not part of the new master cylinder either. 

I can only assume it may come as part of the pipe, and should remain inside the pipe connector when the pipe is swapped from one MC to another.

I can't offer anything more solid than that unfortunately.  It does sound like you'll have to pop the pipe off and try it.

Hi Tom, I think it is probably part of the pipe.  When I can I will pop to a ford dealer and see if they can help me.  I wonder how difficult it is to remove that pipe completely, so I can play with it, to see how the connector works and if this seal is needed.  I might be able to put this seal back in the pipe???

Still in hope somebody out there knows about this connector.

That pipe goes to the bottom of the reservoir and uses the same type of connector both ends so should be easy enough to remove if you can get your hand in there.

As a first attempt, I would just try putting it on the new MC (as shown in your pic) and then forcing the pipe on over it.

Thanks Tom.  I will see if I can remove the tube over the next couple of days.  Thanks for your help.  I will let you know how I get on.

I removed the pipe.  That was good thinking. I should have done that earlier. I found out two things.  That O-ring must be off of something else.  As far as I can tell it has nothing to do with this pipe.  Must be something to do with previous work?  Both ends of the connector look identical.

The second.  Its quite hard to get at these connections.  My hands are too big to be a mechanic.  Anyway when I was originally struggling to get the top pipe off, which is always harder when you totally dont understand how they come apart, the blue clip completely came off of it.  I then struggled to put it back on.  I thought that I got it on correctly, but I found out after I took the pipe out that the blue clip was the wrong way around and that was why it was not securing properly.

Today I am going to try and bleed the system....more fun no doubt.

This is quite funny really.  In my defence, I am quite busy and I am struggling a little bit in fitting time in during the week to work on this car.

I like having a go at these things, and if I was to do this again I would be much much quicker.  I now know a lot more.

Anyway I tried to bleed the system.  And guess what the pipe going into the bottom connector (not the top one) leaked.  It was then that I discovered what the O-ring thing that I had found was for.  It slips on to the bottom pipe connector.  I have not put it on yet, but I have looked at pictures of the (pipe) tube on the internet and I can see this rubber O-ring on the end of the connector.  Probably tomorrow I will push this rubber onto the end of the pipe and try again to bleed the system.

I just wish the Haynes manual had mentioned this rubber O-ring thing.  I guess in most cases this does not come off.  I was very lucky to see it and get it back.  So a warning to anybody reading this.  When disconnecting the bottom pipe of the master cylinder (the pipe going towards the slave cylinder) keep an eye out for a little rubber O-ring thing which pushes on the end of the pipe connector.  I imagine that it could get left behind in the pipe or drop down never to be seen again.  You would have to buy a new pipe to get a new one.

Sorry, I just realised that I did not update you like I said I would.  The rubber O-ring was indeed the seal on the bottom pipe.  It fixed my problem and the clutch and gears have worked fine since.
