Just bought this car and engine malfunction is on … garage have said they forgot to reset after an oil change .. they turned it off .. it’s on again and they have said it just needs driving around  and it will go out ?? Any thoughts ??

    Sounds like they're fobbing you off.

    Engine malfunction warning has nothing to do with servicing.  Somethings broken, the fault codes need to be read to help diagnose what that is.

    You can try driving it for a bit and the light might go out if there's just a brief glitch or the battery charge is low, but the chances of that are fairly small.

    The engine malfunction light does not come on "before, during, or after an oil change" Clearly the vehicle has a problem and the DTC's need to be read using the software FORScan (do not use 3rd party generic code readers). Driving around with light on risks causing damage since the reason for it being illuminated is unknown by you at the moment.
