new member her and I was looking for a bit of advice. I recently had my Powershift gearbox serviced at a very reputable local auto specialist. When I went to collect it he said if I was thinking of changing my car I should do it sooner rather than later, the gearbox oil was black and foul smelling. Anyway I really like the car and it drives great, 78k miles and I got it at 7k. It’s my workhorse. I’m told it would be about 3.5k to recon the gearbox, probably only what the car is worth. Is the right ballpark figure. I just passed the MOT with zero emissions reading. Am I wasting my money ( I would really like to keep the car)Thanks in advance

Hi Bill. Sorry to say but if you've had the car since 7k miles and it's now on 78k miles you should have had the gearbox service done at 37.5k mile intervals. You obviously didn't do any research on the car and gearbox before you got it.

But you've had it serviced now. How much did it cost (out of interest)?

Since its passed its MOT and it drives well and you do a yearly maintenance service I suggest you take it to a Ford dealer in a years time to do a gearbox service. Perhaps there's no need for a gearbox overhaul if it shifts gears nicely. But Do get it done again next year.

Just for your reference. About 8 years ago when I had a Mondeo titanium x sport ecoboost I got a gearbox service at a Fird dealer. It cost me £350.  Cheap for peace of mind.
