loss of power and service light.

Featured Replies

today i took my 2017 kuga 2.0tdci from london to yorkshire.  all was going well then i found a nice bit of open road and opened the throttle . all of a sudden there was a mass loss of power and engine service light illuminated.  i pulled over .the car didnt stall. i switched it off and left it for a couple of minutes.  i then restarted it and there was no warning lights illuninated. the car continued its journey with no further issues.    i have no idea if any fault codes have been stored.  any ideas anyone.

Need codes read really.

Likely to be either lack of fuel pressure or a boost fault.

Doesn't sound like one if it only happened under hard acceleration.

Potentially fuel filter getting clogged or maybe a split boost hose but would need fault codes to narrow it down.

thanks tom   ill try getting a code reader on to it.   quite concerned about it.

I had a similar problem in my old 2005 diesel C-Max, which I bought when it was about 9 years old.  Every time I went over 3k rpm it went into limp mode and I had to stop and turn the engine off to reset it.  Turned out to just be the fuel filter which was so clogged with crap it couldn't draw the fuel through quick enough.  I only got to this solution after replacing a few sensors.  Not guaranteed to be your solution, but I'd certainly check the fuel filter on a diesel if you don't know when it was last replaced.
