Mk3 brake bleeding problems...bit lost

Featured Replies

Hiya guys, been meaning to get on here for a while but never got round to it

Need to pick some brains.

I've just replaced my rear solid break lines 56 plate St tdci as unfortunately they were shot and split and drained the  system of fluid overnight

Spent about 5 hours trying to bleed the system, with no joy, pedal feels solid for a second then drops to the floor

When I first started bleeding it i used the method I know how, pedal to the floor, hold it.etc.

Does the abs unit need bleeding via obd on these? As I'm just at a loss with no car

Many thanks in advance

Use FORScan and put the ABS module in to service mode. It opens all the internal valves and allows trapped air to be bled out of the system.

Cheers. I'm assuming you need the correct leads laptops etc?

Can a snap on diagnostic unit do this as a friend has one available

Very likely, but never owned one so can't say for sure.

If it doesn't, then you'd need to buy an inexensive code reader from Tunnelrat Electronics (Google them), and connect it to a Windows laptop,  download Forscan (free download), then run the abs service procedure, which enables you to bleed the abs. Let us know how you get on
