coolant reservoir cap.

Featured Replies

this cars giving me some ag.  today tried undoing the coolant reservoir cap to check anti freeze level.  the caps unscrewed but left the rest of it stuck in the thread in the reservoir.  awkward   .anyone any ideas how to remove it

Common issue on many Ford's.

Either dig it out with a knife or run the engine with cap off until the pressure blows it out.

Make sure you have a new cap ready to fit before removing the broken one.

Genuine ones around £10-£15.  Aftermarket should be fine but I'd recommend genuine if time & distance allow.  I think the part number is 1301104 but do check they look the same if buying from Amazon.

And its a good Idea to give the threads of the new one a light coating of Silicone Grease and loosen it every few months to stop the same thing happening again.

It's not so much the threads but the rubber o ring that gets the cap stuck. A bit of grease on that would be more beneficial.

I've put aftermarket cap and bottle on daughter's fiesta due to the cap centre getting stuck. Looked identical to the original one. Bought from local  motor factor. I couldn't be arsed to get the centre out of bottle and the bottle was getting aged with small cracks. Bit of a false economy just replacing the cap.

Just a side question, but does your EV have any form of cooling system either for the motors or the inverter ?

Yes, coolant flows around the battery , motor and inverter. Also it has a heat pump that works simular to ac using refrigerant. Very efficient use of waste heat( there is no waste) negates or reduces the need for electric heating for the cabin. Therefore very little loss of range in winter.
