Safely re-booting 2019 Ford KA+ Active?

Featured Replies

The unlock button on my car fob doesn't unlock the doors. You hear a fain click, but that's all.

You can lock all the doors with the fob, and everything else works fine.

Yes, I did fit a brand new battery in the fob, but the problem remains.

So, after hours of searching, I want to try to  re-boot my car's computer system, but have been told to be aware that (On certain cars) if you remove the battery leads, you could be wiping the computer's memory.

If that happens, you will "open a can of worms" and the ECU will have to be re programmed by a Ford dealer  (£££££££££) after the battery is connected again.

So, does anyone know if this problem will be created if I disconnect the battery to re-boot?

Somebody must know, but any information about this car, is virtually impossible to find.

Thanks.

That comes under the heading of "old wife's tales"

Working on the theory that disconnecting the battery could wipe the computers memory (which of course it doesn't), then every time a car suffered a flat battery (same as disconnecting it) the the car would loose it's programme.

99% of all software settings are held in non-volatile memory and would have to be purposely over-written to be changed. The other 1% of information that may have to be re-input on some cars is things like the radio security code, or the one touch window opening and closing.

You probably have a weak motor in the driver's door, which with the manual operation of the key, opens fully, sending the signal to the other three doors to open.

Try lubricating the internals of the door latch (door casing off) inside the door

Disconnecting the battery will not erase any memory other than the learnt parameters of the PCM, if you hold the battery positive and negative cables together it fully drains the power from the system
