Key Fob

Featured Replies

Whilst walking my dog today I went and lost my key fob.  The cars a Ford Kuga 2018 ST Line.  Does anyone have any idea roughly how much its going to be for a new one.  Am absolutely gutted.

Have you got another key?

If so, I would be googling auto locksmiths in your area. You should find one somewhere in your area, if you do have a key you could possibly drive to them rather than having to pay a (probably large) call out fee.

Ford main dealer £199.00

Timpsons (but you have to have a working keyfob for them to clone) £219.00

I'd take it to Ford as you need to make sure you delete the lost key.

Can you not just retrace your steps?

Thanks guys. I've got another key but am obviously going to have to get a spare. Spent 4 hours yesterday and 2 hours today searching the area but with no luck. Am gutted I couldn't find it and especially when I hear how much its going to cost for a replacement 😢

I know it's a long shot, but in the good old days when people found keys and even a purse they used to hand them in at a local police station (if you can find one). You could always contact the local cop shop and see if any keyfobs have been handed in.

Local police stations haven't accepted lost keys for years now.  I tried to hand in a keyless fob back in about 2018 and they wouldn't take it.  Ended up returning it to the manufacturers main dealership in case someone went there saying they'd lost it.

If you use Facebook, lost keys often get posted up on local pages on there.

Good idea Tom 👍

There are quite a few social platforms I'm lead to believe (don't use any of them myself) but worth a try. Perhaps if the OP posts his address someone will call round with the keyfob 😉

Yes, I've heard of local WhatsApp groups being pretty effective for locating lost things/pets etc, also.

We've recently lost our spare for the Focus. Here in the UK Timpson quoted "£200 - £230", my local Ford dealer quoted £176 - including VAT apparently. Going in to the dealership next week. Our car insurance does not cover lost keys, might be worth checking your to see if they are covered, and if so check to see if your NCD would be affected just-in-case!

Ha - I knew this would happen . two weeks after paying out for a new key (dealer quoted £176 then charged £196!), lost key now found.  Wonder if I can get it programmed to match the new code on the car, so at least I have 2 spare keys?

Yes, you can

Yes you can but unfortunately it's another trip back to the dealer. Make sure you take all three keys with you as to add the third the process first has to delete the two working keys and then add all of them back.

Hi guys

Thought I`d do a wee update.  Got my key back.  Was walking in the same area so thought it would be worth a try checking all the local units I had checked previously.  Turned out someone had handed it in probably just after I had been in and asked.  I was just getting ready to order another one too .  So pleased I decided to just check again.

Not going to bother having the found key coded - if I do so, and lose another, I'll have to have the remaining keys and the car recoded in case a tealeaf has the one I've lost!  At least it might be cheaper next time ...

That's a great result! A few months back on approaching my own car, I found a set of keys in a shopping center car park, 1800 spaces, and didn't hesitate to walk all the way back to hand them in to the manager's office. I always hoped that that was the first stop where the misplaced owner then headed to!
