Help! Wrong Size Retractable Parcel Shelf

Featured Replies

HI

I've recently acquired a load cover for my Mondeo Estate Mk4 (2011) off eBay. Upon getting it home I find it is much too wide to fit (even taking into account the compression at the two ends). I wasn't aware that Mondeos have different widths at the back. It was advertised as off a 2010 Mondeo Titanium.

Are Titanium models wider?

Help please!

Excellent, thank you for the two responses Unofix. I was looking at several of the covers you've identified, and have taken the precaution of checking the length of the cross member. The one I bought is 135cm, apparently the one I need is 118.5!

Thank you again

I did contact most of the sellers you identified for me, and more, and without exception they were all 130.5!

Deja Vu? Quite!

I thought a different post with a slightly different slant may stir other responses. The side support shelves are quite deep necessitating a narrower load cover, but no evidence of a multi-changer. Most odd, unless it was part of the Mk 4.5 facelift..

I'll keep going - there must be one around somewhere!!

Thank you.

The only Mondeo that I know of with a smaller cover is the one that has the video entertainment system fitted in the luggage area.

Definitely nothing there - maybe removed? But  no tell-tale markings either. Very strange.

Thank you very much for your time anyway, I'll see if I can post something different next time! 😃

Or none of the above - a Focus with a Mondeo badge.

ooks more like the second one going by the rear light cluster. Last photo is of the 130.5 in place near the fittings. It's a much heavier affair, the sliding side locators are too thick to fit into the sliders, even if it was shorter.

Part number should be 1744127 using that reg.

Pre-facelift 'ledges' do look different to me.  Can't copy the pic for some reason but this ad shows good boot pics.

Yes there does seem to be a difference in the side panels.

I'll include your photo's below Tom.

Still seems that even Ford are listing the same part for all Mondeo from 2007 to 2014

Of course at £331.97 I'm sure it will fit 🤣

The cover in the OP's photo looks like the one from a Galaxy.

That could be one possibility! I'll get some close ups of the end-caps (when it's lighter!). I noticed yesterday that they don't seem to be of a shape to fit into the slots anyway, even if the whole bar was shorter!

Looking at the photos of the two other cars, even if the side supports were narrower the bars don't seem anywhere near as wide. Mine is only a few inches off touching the windows on each side! The load cover illustrated in both sets (red and grey) Must be 118.5s. I can't believe they widened the Mondeo in 2012..did they?

(Incidentally, thank you for continuing this thread so doggedly.)

I can't believe no-one else on here owns a Mk4 estate to go and measure!

The bodyshell remained the same until 2014 when the Mk5 was released.  The Mk5 load cover has a totally different shaped end (no central cut-out by handle) so it's definitely not one of those.

No I noticed that too. I guess they moved the wiper motor out of the way.  I'm just back from the local scrapper's. Only one in there (they must be too good to scrap!), a 2008 model and the cover was exactly the same as the one I bought, with totally different side supports!

I also took the liberty of messaging around half a dozen 2011+ sellers on ebay with a request to measure their retractors, but with the expected response! No one was actually rude, but one guy suggested I'd have a cover if I'd bought his car, and another didn't have a ruler handy but kindly explained you need to compress them to fit!

It seems the way forward is to look at 2012 models if any come up! I should get my money back on the other one., it's in excellent condition.

Thank you so much for persevering!
