Kuga PHEV Auto - Apply Handbreak on power off question

Question about the hand break auto applying after turning the car off

I have a Focus Vignale Manual - When I turn the vehicle off it shows on my dash 'park break applied' (or something along those lines) and the little red light to show the hand break is on.

My dad has just bought a Kuga PHEV Automatic - When he turns the vehicle off it doesn't do this. It does automatically put the vehicle into 'Park' but there's no signs that the handbreak is on. If he then flicks the handbreak switch, it turns on and the little red light to show its on appears.

My question is - When he turns the vehicle off and it goes into 'Park' is the hand break on? (I think not...) Will it put its self on at some point?

I find it odd that after pulling up and switching the vehicle off and it going into 'park' that he still seems to have to flick the handbreak switch to have it flash up and say the handbreak is applied and the red light appear

thanks in advance!

On a manual, the parking brake will have to  automatically engage as the gearbox is in neutral with potential to roll away. With an automatic the box goes into park to stop roll away. This negating the need to a certain extent the auto of parking brake. Obviously good practice to apply the parking brake as well. That's my educated guess.
