MK4 vibration after wheel balancing and new caliper ?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Very recently had two new front tyres , put on my 2010 titanium X S, at the same time a slack handbrake turned out to be a stuck rear caliper. All straightforward right, afterwards however I now have a vibration or repeating bump which I can feel through the car as well as the accelerator pedal, it's not wheel shake it's more like driving over cats eyes continuously over about 40mph, growing in frequency based on the speed.

Wheels were balanced and tracked  at the time, I have since been back to the garage and they balanced them again and swapped them over, made no difference, they don't know what's up , it's the same if I am out of gear also braking does not stop it either, the tyres have been checked for lumps and bumps, nuts are tight etc . Any ideas on what this could be ? As I said before the small amount of work this was not present, there was some vibration on the wheel from the previous tyres not being that balanced and the alignment being  out on one wheel. It's driving true with minimal wheel vibration at 70 just with this almost a rumble at those speeds. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers

Fit the spare wheel.

Take one of the new tyres off and fit the spare. Test to see if the problem goes away. Repeat until you find which tyre is causing the problem.

What do you mean by new?

Sounds like you have a flat spot

Brand new Maxxis vs5 fitted on the front, not considered a flat spot , would that not flag up when being balanced ?  ( And done twice) someone suggested that the new caliper could be catching but I checked the temps on the discs after a run and no difference between any of them. My head is saying it just has to be the tyres.

Don't think flat spot , car has done 800miles now with the new tyres , rumbling all the way, only noticeable difference was it seemed slightly worse on a cold morning, but honestly could have just been my perception.
