LED DRL Repair

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have just noticed that one half of my LED DRL strip isnt working. Wondering if I need to replace the whole healight unit or if I can just replace the strip or if there is an easier fix somehow.

Thank you

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. :thumbup1:

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd imagine you will have to replace the whole unit, unfortunately. I don't how much they are new (probably expensive) so I'd check local scrap yards or fleBay for decent 2nd hand units.  Is it one side  or has both headlight units failed?

This can be caused by low battery voltage so worth giving the battery a charge if cheap & easy to do so.

If the LEDs themselves have failed you will need a full new light cluster though.  The LED strips aren't available separately.

I think you struck lucky, on a quick Ebay search, you can pick up a decent replacement for about £120. I know of a guy that recently had to fork out over £3400 on a headlight unit for an Audi Q7.

On another thread we were discussing the longevity of cars these days, and far from engine issues, I feel increasingly that a few years down the road from new it'll be the replacement of LED headlights, and or other electronic niceties  that could potentially send a car off to the scrapper as the  3rd/4th owner etc just can't afford it...

I'm confused 🤔

Assuming that this post made by Adam Hawley is the same Adam Hawley that left the review on Trustpilot then they seem to have left the negative review about FOC mods before they joined the FOC forum.

On another note, I thought the response given to his post was polite, and useful...
