engine cooling fan

Featured Replies

Engine electric cooling fan operates when starting engine from cold. Engine temp indicates normal and engine operates ok when warm.  Is this normal?

Do you have the air conditioning switched on?

Don't think the air con was selected  but will check when trying again. No sure why Air Con would affect any operation.  Started the engine again yesterday and the cooling fan did not operate. I wonder if it is a fault code being triggered in the Engine Management Control Module, which I understand activates the cooling fan when receiving an over temp signal from the thermostat sensor. It appears this is the only water temp sensor signal being sent to the EMCM. I can only assume the sensor is ok as the  dashboard consul shows normal operating temperature. The temp sensor appears to be a simple affair, sending just a single signal to the EMCM.

If it continues to occur maybe I need to have a diagnostic check on the EMCM?

Cheers for any help

Fan runs constantly with AC switched on.  It's needed to cool the AC condenser.

The dash temp may be calculated from more than one sensor depending on which engine you have.

Diagnostic test would be useful if you can get that done.

Thanks for the info on the cooling fan running with AC on. Learn something every day. I will check this out when I next start up.  Thanks again.
