Mondeo 2013 powershift issue

Featured Replies

Hello

For a few months now, my 2013 Mondeo Powershift 163 (Diesel 2.0) has been misbehaving.

When accelerating gently, mostly when in gears 2/3, occasionally in 4, generally when in the 30-40mph range, the gearbox doesn't seem to know what gear it wants to be in.  It feels like its "dithering", and sometimes it drops down, then back up, sometimes it just feels like the clutch slipped as if it was about the change, but then it changed it's mind and stays, repeatedly.  Backing off the accelerator temporarily stops it, or if I floor it.  This only happens when in D.  Doesn't seem to be an issue in S.

When it's doing it, the RPM needle wavers gently up and down, rather than moving upwards smoothljy, and I notice it's more pronounced when the engine is under load, i.e. going up an incline.

I've also noticed that when I'm going up inclines, in 3rd, the kickdown doesn't seem to work, and it stays in 3rd feeling sluggish. Conversely, when I had a Focus 2.0 140, it was so much more nippy and faster going up hills.

I've seen that there's a sequence to reset the TCM in lots of ford models, overwhelmingly for the Focus, but I can't find one that seems to work for my car.

Hoping someone can signpost me to a solution?

Thanks in advance!
