Battery not inside car

Featured Replies

Hi all I replaced my battery in my key fob in my 2013 b max today and now car won't start unlocks and locks..

When I start like normal the headlights flash and all the dash lights up on and off whilst holding the button down .. not everytime but now and then on the display says key not inside vehicle

Many thanks in advance for advice

The keyless immobiliser part of the fob seems to have been damaged during the battery change.

You should still be able to start by placing the fob in the emergency position.

Open the fob again to see if you can see any damage on the PCB.

On the B-Max the emergency position is shown below.  Will need to be exactly this orientation as the proximity chip doesn't have much range.  If that's what you've been trying then something has gone wrong with the car rather than the key fob, but that seems odd if it was fine before changing the fob battery.  Best advice I could offer there is to get an auto locksmith out.

If you are unable to start your vehicle, do the following.

Keyless Starting

  1. Hold the key next to the steering column exactly as shown.
  1. With the key in this position you can use the button to switch the ignition on and start your engine.

It'll probably go flat again if it's left for another month.  I would suggest replacing it if you're going to use it.

However, if you aren't going to use the car, it may not be worth the expense.  I've left the battery dead on my 'spare' car now until I know it'll get used regularly again.
