Ford KA digital instrument cluster display not working

Featured Replies

When changing a flat battery and starting my Ford KA mk2 2011 Zetec, everything starts up fine, except the instrument cluster display for the odometer, time and date is not working/turning on. The rest of the lights on the dashboard come on completely fine and the speedometer and tachometer work fine too. It is just the odometer that’s no longer working. I have tried swapping out the fuses but this hasn’t resolved the problem. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This has nothing to do with fuses. A blank LCD on the instrument cluster usually means that the LCD is dead and needs replacing. I run a repair service on ebay (here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314393033915), primarily for the common problem of cracked solder joints. Most models of Ford cluster of this sort of age suffer from cracked solder joints on the main wiring connector, a couple models don't. I've not been sent a KA one yet so I don't yet know if it is one that suffers from this and would need resoldering. It's unknown whether cracked solder joints are responsible for LCDs occasionally dying, so it's definitely worth getting the solder joints checked out and repaired if necessary at the same time just in case. I'm willing to look at and repair it for you if you like. You'll need to remove your cluster (or have someone else remove it) and post it to me. Note that garages don't typically do this kind of repair work, they don't tend to have the necessary skills or equipment. The price of my service does not include the price of a replacement LCD. New LCDs can be surprisingly expensive (~£50). I find that the best place to get them is to scavenge them from used units being sold on ebay. So if the LCD does need replacing, as it almost certainly will, we'd need to additionally source such a used unit to scavenge an LCD from. If resoldering is not required I could give you a partial discount from my service price.
