Hello is it normal to get around 27mpg from 1.6 HWDA engine? 2008 cmax 1.6 petrol. Thanks.

Are they really that bad? I'm going to clean injectors and check or replace timing belt see if there's any improvement.

Not had personal experience of that engine so unable to suggest anything specific.

However, plenty of posts around the web on poor economy with this version, check out owners reviews on sites like Honest John for example.

A petrol C-Max is not really a recipe for good economy - I had the later 1.6 ecoboost for a while and rarely saw more than 34mpg even though I seldom drive in traffic.

Back in their day the MPG for petrol cars was much less than what we now expect. See this thread below (1.8 engine)

Sorry everyone, issue has now been resolved. Replaced t-map sensor and intake manifold. Its much better now, getting 22-24 mpg urban, for me thats an improvement.

Even in the Fiesta this engine was thirsty...not suited to a heavy C-Max at all.  The Ti-VCT model would have been slightly better at around 35mpg.  Though a 1.6 diesel would have been the best option at the time with around 50mpg.

Strange I used to drive 2.0 petrol Mondeo and could easily get 35mpg out of that.

It's not the same engine, but you might be better to ditch the C-Max and get the Mondeo back 😉
