MK3 115 2.0 TDCI 2006 - Random loss of power (Limp mode?) -

Featured Replies

Hi all, my first time here - as my Mondeo has been pretty robust until now!

This has been happening intermittently the past few weeks.

  • I'll be driving and I will get a sudden loss of power.
  • This can happen from cold, or 30 minutes into a drive.
  • Sometimes I get a consitent orange engine light, sometimes I don't.
  • The code I get (when the engine light is on) through my reader is: P1288 (Cylinder Head Temp Sensor Out Of Range) (fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/36080-fault-code-p1288-cylinder-head-temp-sensor-out-of-range/)
  • Turning the engine off and back on fixes the issue, until the next time it happens.

Here are some of my observations/testing:

  • The engine light doesn't always come on when this happens, sometimes it does:

  • When I lose power, the temperature gauge goes to 0:

  • Upon turning the engine off, then back on, the temperature gauge reads correct (until the limp mode engages again)

It's a bit of a strange one, so I was wondering if anyone has had the issue before and found a solution?

Thanks for reading

Cheers

Update: I just found a few posts detailing my exact problem. I've ordered a new cylinder head temp sensor (9C116G004DC) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333504129187?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338365712&toolid=20006&customid=EB162945621&amdata=enc%3A10PsuOsl4R62o0rUuAzWQXA56&_trkparms=ispr%3D1

Let's see if this fixes it. Just hope the garage don't want an arm and a leg to fit it
