Boot seal and adjustment issues

Featured Replies

I have a 14 plate cmax which has recently started developing issues with the rear parking sensors. Whenever I start the car I get an error message saying to check parking sensors. After some searching I noticed water getting into the rear wheel well, not a huge amount but a small trickle which seemed to be entering on the right side of the boot under the carpet.

After watching many videos online I stripped the roof trim off thinking it could be that however mine were stuck on with 3m tape and not clipped. No other signs of water entry for a few days then After heavy rain I noticed the seal the full length of the bottom of the boot had water sitting in it going up around 3inch either side. Upon further inspection I can see that my boot is slightly out of alignment either side so I'm unsure if this is likely to be the issue. I've had the car 6 years, no bumps, no visible signs of wear to the seal so I'm wondering if it's possible to adjust the boot stops as it doesn't seem to sit against one of the stops on the right. Wondering if it could be something as simple as this?

Soon as it dries up the parking sensors start working again but its driving me nuts as I can't seem to trace how water is getting to be on the seal where it is. I've attached some pics to show where the seal is staying wet and also where the20231110_114912.thumb.jpg.d0493b31f970bf428aad35a6d1eef541.jpg water seems to be getting into the wheel well.

Any help would be much appreciated before I bite the bullet and reluctantly buy a new seal at £115 😖

Can you not adjust the striker to pull the tailgate in more?

If not put a strip of rubber on the tailgate where the tailgate is missing the seal or some vasaline on the seal

The Rubber Bump Stops are threaded on a lot of cars and you just turn them a little at a time to move them in or out.

I had to do that to my car because it left the factory with the Bonnet and Boot a bit skew whiff.
