2010 KA 1.2 Gearbox Leak

Featured Replies

Hi,

My son's girlfriend has just bought a 2010 KA 1.2.  The clutch was not very good so we decided to change this.  On inspection, the bell housing was very oily (as was the clutch).  We though this may be the crankshaft seal, so we replaced this.  We also replaced the gearbox oil.

A week after this work was done we noticed transmission oil leaking from the bell housing.  This was quite a lot of oil, actually dripping.

My assumption is that when she bought the car the transmission oil was very low and therefore not leaking very much.  As we replaced the oil and filled the gearbox to the correct level, it has started to leak again.

My thoughts are that this could be a damaged input shaft seal.  There is a bit of sideways play in the input shaft (the splined end can be wiggled a mm or so side to side).  Also, when we placed the gearbox with the bell housing downwards a lot of oil poured out beside the input shaft.

Has anyone else had similar issues?  Looks like we will need a recon gearbox or a repair done, but I'd like to know if I am on the right track?

Many thanks - Peter
