Defective Day Running Lights

Featured Replies

Why is Ford not recognising there is a design fault with the day running light and doing a recall, I see the Puma has the same Design Fault.

Maybe they aren’t aware there is a fault, unless it happens on a large number of cars they won’t know it do anything, if there’s a fault it would be covered under warranty if that still applies to the car.

Might help if you explain what you think the defect with them is 🤔

It is a large scale problem, the Day Running Lights go dim and a yellow colour, and it's £1000+ repair.  No other car Maker seems to have this problem.  I have contacted Ford and got the usual response of we are not aware go away.

I'm curious, how have you concluded it's, 'a large scale problem'? Have you read some data on it? Have you accessed a forum somewhere that has 100s of posts on the issue? Or have your DRLs gone faulty and you've assumed that everyone elses must be faulty too?

As a driving Instructor, I see a large number of car's, A lot of Driving Instructors around here use the Fiesta and Puma.  I would say around 70% of us have had this problem, now some of the one's using the Puma are staring to have same problem.

Odd that the most persistent Google research doesn't highlight the 'large scale problem'. Maybe y'all are keeping it a secret... 😄

If the car is 5-6 years old being used for driving instruction, i.e. the DRLs are basically on 8 hours a day, then I don't know if I'd call it a design fault?

Sounds like it has just worn out, like any other part. Driving instruction cars are known to wear things out much quicker than regular use cars.

Also doesn't sound like a dangerous fault.  Unless the headlights are likely to spontaneously combust, they won't get recalled.

I’m not a driving instructor but also see a large number of cars, that’s just what happens when you drive.

70% sounds a lot but depends on the sample size, is it 10 driving instructors or tens of thousands of cars with those DRLs? My van has the same set up, none in our fleet have had an issue.

Its not just Driving Instructors that have this problem, I see a lot of private cars with this problem, what I think is very interesting is Ford changed the design on these head light about 18 months ago, why would you do that when you have announced the end of the era of the Fiesta, to me that does not make sense.

Changed them how? Do you mean from the mk8 design you have to the mk8.5 design.

So that would coincide with the time that whole model was given a facelift and changed from the Mk8 that you have to last version Mk8.5

Sounds even odder in that case. I've seen very few Mk 8.5s of any type, let alone been able to draw any conclusions as to whether the DRLs are a problem. I'd better check mine - assuming Ford haven't left them out like all the other stuff they deleted!😀

There were lots of "green meanies" on AutoTrader a while back, but just had a look today and of 26 ST-3s still remaining in dealer stock there are now only 3, so must have been popular. Rest are white (19) race red (3) and black (1).

Wonder how long before the last one goes and if the buyer will be on here?

Dealer had 4 or 5 new ST's available from stock...this one was in the showroom, now replaced with a red ST.

This one was the only one with heated seats....the other half would never forgive me for buying one without those...well got to keep her tush warm ☺️

Dealers having trouble shifting cars at the moment, both new and used, so may take a while getting through the stock.
