New key not working?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I bought a 2007 Mk4 Mondeo a couple of years ago to use for etting to work. The car came with one key, the original non-retacting pear shape one. I bought a cheap flip remote shell line and transferred the board and chip from the original ey to it and it worked like new for a while. Once the intenals had broken (the clip holding the battery snapped) I decided to get a new flip remote cut, which I did this morning.

The new key works fine, opens in the lock, activates both the double lock and alarm when used in the lock, and starts the car perfectly but when I got home I found that the remote locking isn't working as expected. Pressing the lock button once locks the car but a second press does nothing. No audible locking sound and the indicators don't flash so I don't know if the alarm is on or not. The vendor insists that it will activate the alarm but without the visual cue I'm not so sure.

Any advice would be appreciated before I go back to the vendor.

Thanks.

The new key is only a clone, it has the exact same transponder code as the key it was 'cloned' from. The lock/unlock is a separate function of the keyfob and if it can operate the locking 'once' but fails to double lock and set the alarm it would suggest that either the battery voltage is low, or the keyfob is unable to send two lock pulses in close succession.
