2012 MK4 Mondeo Vacuum Assisted Turbo Actuator

Featured Replies

I usually reside on ford fiesta forum,

a friend of mine has a 2012 mondeo titanium estate ecoboost,  mk4 1.6 diesel. endurance type engine. apparently the vacuum assisted turbo actuator is in need of replacement. fault code been identified via diagnostic computer. he is very knowledgeable engineer ,(retired). can anyone advise on the location of this vacuum assisted actuator or show a pic/video where it is please?

Hi,

There's a lot of confusion over the engine type there.

It can't be Ecoboost, 1.6 Diesel and Endura.  Those are 3 very different engine types.

Can you please confirm which of those is correct?

Sorry for the mixup, it's definitely 2012 1.6 (1560cc) diesel mondeo titanium estate.

I'm waiting for him to arrive home to get vin number.

Thanks.

The turbo on these is a small VNT turbo right at the front of the engine.

The actuator itself is bolted directly onto the turbo with a metal rod to control the vane position.

The electronic solenoid that controls the vacuum for the actuator is bolted either behind or to the side of the engine.  It can be found by simply following the vacuum pipe from the turbo actuator itself.

Hope that helps.  If not, I'll try to find a suitable picture later.
