Led headlight bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi, I've just fitted some LED headlight bulbs and although the lights work perfectly an error message on the the dash comes on. Is it ok to continue using them and would they be an MOT failure because of the error warning ?

Cheers Mike

The use of LED lamps in place of the original halogens is an automatic MOT failure if the change is spotted by the MOT tester.

Also part of the MOT now is to check for warning lights on the instrument cluster, so again most probably an MOT failure.

The use of high quality, so called 'Canbus Friendly' LED's will mean that the warning light will not be on, but it is still illegal in the UK to retro fit LED's in headlights.

If they are professionally aligned, they should not blind you, that's why it's part of the MOT test. Sadly, many folk just bung them in without a thought for anyone else...

Has anyone fitted LED bulbs and not got an error message?  And if so, what were the make of the LEDS?

To ensure 'error free', just look for bulbs that promise a 'canbus error free' spec...

That's true. However, even they sometimes through up the error message.

Thanks.
