Ford Mondeo MK4 cutting out/stalling whilst driving

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all, I am hoping someone can help? I have a MK4 Mondeo estate, just before Xmas whilst driving on a couple of occasions the car seemed to lose power for a second but the carried on as normal. Couple of days ago whilst driving the car lost power and then stalled. Once I restarted the engine an engine malfunction light was indicated, however on turning off and restarting disappeared. Whilst driving under acceleration (2500 rpm) the car seems to lose power and has also stalled on numerous occasions, this has even occured whilst sat idle at a junction. I have had the car to the local garage and they cannot see any error codes and have informed me that it could be the clock? Could any one give me any ideas on what could be the issue?

Hi, not all code readers can read Ford codes. If your error isn't a genetic OBD code, then you need to find a garage with a good quality code reader, or better still, be independent and buy yourself an inexpensive (but proven) one from Tunnelrat Electronics* and run a utility called Forscan, which understands Ford-specific codes. Need any more info, just ask!

*there is another make, but can't remember it's name*

If it's diesel, then replacing the fuel filter might be a good place to start.  Otherwise, getting Ford specific codes is ideal as above.

By 'clock' I think they probably meant the dash cluster which can suffer from broken solder joints.  I'm not sure if they're a common issue on this age of Mondeo though.
