DPF differential pressure sensor

Featured Replies

A bit of an odd one, today I drove around 7 miles to collect a trailer that I was planning on towing down to the west country and back, drove there no problems, hooked up a trailer, plugged the electrics in and started the engine to test them (wasn't sat in the drivers seat just had foot on the brake pedal) all good got tin the car to drive it away and had the engine management light on, no warnings of other errors displayed.

stopped and restarted the car light still on, got out locked it and waited a few minutes before getting back in and starting it, warning light had gone off, the guy I was hiring the trailer from had a scanner which we plugged in and got the following error

P2454 Diesel particulate filter differential pressure sensor circuit low

He cleared the code down and the light is off, spoke with a mechanic there and he said it sounds like a block tube which is a common problem, I've deferred my round trip until the car is looked at as I didn't want to be stuck at the side of the road with a car trailer and depending on which way I was going a car on the trailer.

I've driven home and the car is running perfectly fine with no warnings but I've booked it into Fords as a precaution, but they can't do anything for 3 weeks 😞

Question is could a sudden low volts of plugging in the trailer cause a warning like that? battery is 3 years old and currently low enough voltage that the stop start is not cutting in, mainly as it hadn't been driven for a week there's no issues with starting it.

I've tried a bike rack with built in lights, plugging it in whilst the engine was off and then starting it as well as plugging it in with the engine running couldn't get the error to work.

Could it just be a coincidence that plugging in the trailer caused the error?

Also completely unrelated to the DPF error, has anybody used their edge to tow a car trailer with car? trailer with car is around the 1.5-1.6 ton mark

Thanks

Ref the dpf , coincidence. The sensor is intermitantly causing the fault.

Ref the dpf,

What would you recommend with it, I drove home without it showing the engine light and popped out in it earlier, still nothing, would it just be a glitch and there is nothing wrong or is it something that will need to be looked at before doing any long journey's?

As the code has been cleared down would it log it again even if there is no engine management light? or is it a case of driving it until it crops up again? I'm thinking of popping it into a local garage tomorrow to see if they can se anything otherwise it's waiting 3 weeks until Ford can see it.

Luckily I don't need to use it for work, so haven't got that worry.

Love the car, just don't like it when you get glitches that throw spanners into mix, you never know if it will come back or it's just one of those things!!

Hi Ben did you solve your problem with the Eml when towing

I have ford edge 2018 sport  I have towed a caravan 1600kg since new no problem but in may last year I had a spanner light come on and went into limp mode I pulled over and turn car off and back on light had gone and car was good again got to where I was going.

This keeps happening I have taken it to Ford dealership and they can’t find the fault

any ideas??

I think it was just a coincidence that the eml came on after plugging in a trailer, I had done a couple of quick stop/starts with the button to move the car a short distance to plug the trailer in.

I had the light cleared and the car was running fine, I had done a couple of journeys in it with no issues, I got home at the end of a run and switched the car off and then switched it back on straight away. the eml came on and would not turn off even after a couple of more key cycles.

It went in on Monday just gone and when it was plugged in they found that the pressure sensor was spiking in voltage which was causing the eml to come on. I had taken it for a run last week and even though the light was on the car ran fine with no issues, it didn't even need to do a regen as it was only at 60% when the garage had it in, one new sensor later and it's all good!

With regards to the spanner light that sounds more like servicing, I've never had that or had it go into limp mode, I think there is a thread on here about something like that when towing up a hill.
