Misfire issues on start up 2017 Edge

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 Ford Edge SE 2.0 Eco boost. It has approximately 86,300 miles on it. I live in Florida, USA if that provides any useful context. I was having issues with it misfiring on start up. My father has a code reader, it said cylinder 2 was misfiring. It was only misfiring when it was cold, if it was still hot there were no issues with misfire. I changed the spark plugs and coil boots this past weekend, we also tried an intake cleaner (which was a spray can that was to be sprayed into the air intake while the engine was reved repeatedly.) It was running fine for a couple hours after that, but then that same evening the check engine light kicked back on. I haven't got a chance to get to my father's again to have him run the code reader. But it seems like its running a bit rough still, it doesn't sound like misfires it just kinda runs rough on start up. I have also noticed the sound of liquid running coming from under the dash board. The attached photo is the spark plugs we took out of my car, me nor my father ever seen the rust color like this on spark plugs before so I'm not sure what other issues this could be a tell of.

Hello Wendy,

Welcome to the Ford Owners Club 👍

Those spark plugs look in poor condition (the rust colour is quite common), I'm surprised that you didn't see a considerable improvement in the running once you fitted new ones.

Did you buy the replacement plugs directly from a Ford dealer ? There are lots of fake plugs out there which are difficult to spot. for EXAMPLE see video below.

I bought the OE Motorcraft replacements the iridium plugs. I checked the level of my coolant this morning and the reservoir was near empty. The last time I had to fill it back to between the min. and max was probably October/November, but it wasn't that low back then it was a little below the minimum line. But this time the level was right at the bottom of the reservoir.

That sounds like you might have a blown head gasket. You need to use a Hydro Carbon test kit and check for exhaust gases in the coolant.

YOU JUST DISCRIBED MY CAR EXACTLY.  SOUNDS LIKE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE!

Do the Hydro Carbon test and check for blown head gasket

experiencing misfire cyl 2 and ford diagnosed it as engine block needs to be replaced. coolant is leaking from a crack on to cyl #2. engine warning lites. I fill coolant clear warning than the process repeats over and over again

Then you need a new engine and nothing we can advise will change that I am sorry to have to say.
