Kuga 3 - Fuel Flap Jammed

Went for fuel today and normally I push the fuel flap gently to open it and the same to close it. For some reason the flap would not release although eventually did so and I filled up.

Normal Sunday afternoon wash occurred and I thought I’ll check the fuel flap. It was difficult to release but did eventually so I thought I’d add WD40 to the mechanism in case it was just dodgy and needed freed off.  Now it won’t open at all, no matter where I push it. Luckily I have a full tank now but has anyone else had this issue and have a fix ?  You can’t get behind the mechanism from inside the boot and the inner wheel arch prevents access from there. Any help will be appreciated. Warranty expired in December !!

For avoidance of doubt I know PHEV vehicles have a release by the headlamp switch but mine is diesel, so just has the push release flap.

Well it seems nobody could help, so I had to take the car to a dealer.  They had to access the mechanism from behind the inner wing trim.  The mechanism had failed, so had to order a new mechanism.  It was fitted yesterday and cost a massive £270, £90 of which was the cost for the strip down to establish the fault, then £180 for the parts and further strip down and repair.  A lot of money for a flap that doesn’t lock, but at least I can refuel now. Pity I can no longer afford the fuel !!

Why the dealer, a decent mech cudda sorted it for a damn site less. Obviously NOT a common problem.
