Where is the cabin air 'intake' on MK4(from the engine bay)?

Featured Replies

Hey,

Changed the cabin fitter a week or so ago but didn't solve the problem of an underlying foul smell when the heating is on (not A/C) so I purchased a special fogger to clean out the whole AC/intake system, it came in a pack of two and the instructions are to use the first one by locating the intake duct from the engine bay but I have no idea where it is and I've looked high and low for it.

Is it by any chance under the windscreen where the rain duct is?

I'm guessing its some old levees or even mice nest that may have crawled up in there or something. Need to solve this one ASAP as going on a long trip soon and would die having to smell that all the way up there.

Many thanks!

Yes, it's under the scuttle panel as you suggest.  Need to remove the wiper arms and rubber seal then the panel can be unlipped.

Does the scuttle panal sit flush with the air intake? I was just wondering if its possible to slip the nozzle of the fogger from under the panal, but if not, I'll just pop off the halfords and grab the sockets needed for the wipers.

Many thanks again for the reply!

It's not flush.  There's a large gap under there with the wiper linkages.  If you don't have any tools to hand then it may be possible to lift just the front edge of the panel enough to get the nozzle to the intake.

Many thanks Tom much appreciated will post back if successful. Of course getting the scuttle off and cleaning any junk out would be a bonus.

Thanks again!
