No charge. No warning.

I have just read a similar topic but for an earlier model so wonder if my issue is the same ?

My Wife has 2015 KA 1.2. Last week she rang me with flat battery outside shop. She 'thinks' something may have been left on ?

Jump started fine, and I put battery on overnight trickle charge, just in case.

Has ran fine all week, then last night it refused to start outside work. Again a jump had it going. Though the text " Laura is going to give me a jump" was a bit concerning ! 😆

On her return, 15 miles, I checked the battery, it was 12.6 which seemed fine. But this did not change with engine running.

Charge light does not come on. Any ideas ?

12.6 running points to no charge, get the alternator checked

Thanks. With there being no charge light I wasn't sure if it could be alternator fault.

Some times they don't warn you, they just die

Thanks all.

I would have preferred to wait 'til I could check the Alternator but Mrs went to Halfords and had Battery checked this Am.
Their 'machine' said battery needed replacing. As I imagined it would 🤔. It is 3 years old.
Battery cost £103 with discount and 5 year guarantee.
I fitted this evening and it is now showing 14 V when running, which looks promising.
I will charge old battery and leave in car with leads for a while just in case.
Not the easiest to get under but I will try and check those alty connections.

Well I think I spoke too soon.

According to 'The nice man at Halfords' if the battery is dud then it would not take a full charge ?

Fitted new battery and Volts did rise to 14V when running and with headlights on. So I thought all was good.

But after reading some of the response here I thought I would check again after car left for few hours.

Volts had dropped to 12.4 whilst standing from 12.6.

Boot lock has been playing up so wonder if there could be a drain in there. Boot light does go off though.

At the moment she is carrying the recharged old battery as a spare until I can have a proper look.

I don't have a handbook showing fuses.

Can anyone tell me please what circuit Fuse 14, 20 Amp, in Passenger Glove box covers ?

Ford KA 2015 Owners Handbook: See page 128 and 129

https://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/ENUSA_CG3549_KAA_og_201407.pdf

according to the handbook there is no fuse number F14 in the passenger compartment fuesbox.

Fuse F14 in the engine bay is for the Main Beam Headlights.

Yea I've just been through the Hand Book link you provided and it does not show it ?

I think it would be in position of F12 as per diagram.

There are only 3 fuses listed at 20 Amp. The drivers window, The passengers window and the central locking.

Why are you interested in Fuse 14 or Fuse 12 whatever it maybe called ?

His photo is upside down compared to the fuse box diagram in the handbook.

So it's fuse 47, 20amp, drivers power window.

No that is as is. Fuse box is vertical, one in hand book is left right ?

But I will check out drivers door anyway.

.Not sure if I doing it right but I am getting a low reading across that Fuse with car shut down.

Well up at 5 so will leave it for now.

Thanks

So back from  a few days away and managed to coincide my day off with the Wife's to have another look.

Removed the 20A fuse I suspected but it made no change. I have used a temp sensor and the top left 7.5 Amp fuse is warmer than the others so I am going to disconnect that overnight when I can.

Now, I have spotted a 5 Amp fuse next to the OBD connector. It is wired up and ok, but there is no Voltage at fuse with Ign' on or off. Any idea what this is for ?

For what it worth thought I would give an update.

Had an Auto-Elec have a look. There was a 'black box' fitted, presumably by PO, this was removed and the Blue Tooth module was disconnected as this was providing a continuous draw. Although this has helped, the battery is still losing voltage over time.

So two hours and £60 lighter I am non the wiser. 🙄

O, just remembered I too have the flashing mileage issue, started when new battery fitted ?  🤔

Is it possible that the car needs telling that it has a new battery ?

Unlike every other modern Ford, the 'Fiat' Ka doesn't seem to have any battery monitoring reset procedure.

Cheers, I guess that one issue out the way.

If the charging issue is still present, try (at your own risk) perhaps disconnecting the "Smart charge" connector from the alternator and start up. If the voltage jumps to circa 13.8v it means that your Smart Charge system has failed inside the alternator. This is a problem that I encountered when I replaced my battery with lead acid when it should have been Calcium. I ran my 2006 Ka Duratec that way until the end. Whenever I reconnected the Smart Charge connector, the alternator stopped working. Good luck.
