Electrical issue with heaters

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2007 mondeo st has a few issues and I don’t know where to start. First of all the heater blower is on full blast and the controller of the heating inside the car has no power and blank screen. I have lost power to the radio windows and heated seats . All fuses are fine I have checked every single one with multi meter . Any helping the issue would be appreciated

Remove the driver's seat, pull back the carpet and check the condition of the wiring under the seat (not the seat wiring) you may find a broken wire

Oh, are you a MK3 or MK4?

If MK3 check the GEM or BCM for water damage

Hi it’s a mk3 I have checked all the wires whole dash is in bits lol. It’s strange it just stopped working.
the needles do a full sweep when ignition is turned on, the cigarette lighter has no power and the climate control and radio has no power . I have just been and replaced every single fuse just to be sure and still nothing. I can’t plug the obd reader in as there’s no power to the connection port. And confirmed my reader is working on my other car . At total loss with it

Hi, if the needles at doing a full sweep, then your battery is low or you've a bad connection on it or under it - that's where the earths are connected. Measure it with your multimeter - what's the voltage reading?

I only replaced the battery a few months back and it’s reading 13.8v when I start it up

Ford Mondeo Mk3 (2000-2007)

Passenger Compartment Fusebox Fuse 72 (20 Amp) is the 12V supply for the OBD port.

Ok I have just checked that fuse and not getting any power to there

Did you check with the ignition on (not that you should need it on) ? and did you check both sides of the fuse ?

If both sides of fuse holder F72 is dead then I would suspect the GEM has internal corrosion

I checked with engine running . What’s the GEM ?

Generic Electronic Module or also gets called General Electric Module (GEM). On later vehicles it was replaced by the Body Control Module (BCM). It is part of the passenger compartment fuesbox. The inside of the fuesbox is a circuit board which is a mini computer in simple terms. It handles functions like  Lights, tailgate release, wipers, screenwash pump, horn and quite a few other functions.

If you completely remove the passenger compartment fuesbox and then open it up you will find the GEM circuit board inside.

Doesn't explain the needles sweeping tho'.  Lift out battery and plastic holder and check the earth connections underneath. If corroded then unbolt them and clean them up, make sure the bolts are good and tight.

Unofix, I suggested that 'cos Nige22 had written "the needles do a full sweep when ignition is turned on,"

OK.

Do we know if it usually did that before the present fault ?

I've had a car in the past that always did that, it was just the way it had been set.

Hi thanks for the input. The needle sweep defo never did that before , I have tried the dues box out and all connections are bone dry and earths look good . Would it hurt putting another earth lead on to the body of the car ?

You must have a CAN issue somewhere, get the codes read using FORScan

I suspect a broken wire or earth on the IP harness somewhere

My Haynes manual only covers the prefacelift mk3, so I don't have a circuit diag of the later model you've got. But AS  you're not getting volts to either side of  fuse f72, then would be nice to know where it gets it's feed from....🤔  Maybe via one of the relays..... (thinking aloud here.....)

Have you got access to a later Haynes?

In the absence of any other suggestions, (and don't ignore advice from Unofix and DaveT70), try gently tapping the tops of all the relays with the back of a small screwdriver and see if the voltage returns... (still thinking....)

Hi Dave, the OP can't use any diagnostic equipment as the supply to the OBDII port is dead. Which is fed from fuse F72 in the passenger compartment (also supplies the radio). The OP reports that there is no supply to either side of F72, but without a wiring diagram I'm unable to find where it should be getting a supply from

Yes, I've just seen that, sorry.

Wiring diagrams needed

Diagrams I have are not great for Mondeo but possibly F7 (50A) in the Battery Junction Box
