KA Mk1 Boot Light Switch

Featured Replies

I have a 2008 Mk1 KA and the boot courtesy light has stopped working. I have checked the bulb and that is fine, so it might be the switch.

Problem is that I have no idea where the switch is located and no amount of Googling has helped.

Does anyone know what actuates the boot light?

Aren't these still the contacts and pins on the boot lid?

If so they need removing, cleaning and greasing as they seize

Do any Fords still use a mercury tilt switch? My old 1984 XR3i use to have one and when it went faulty, had to get special license to order replacement as they were often used as a trigger device for a bomb! Aahhh... the good old days 😁

Mercury is too toxic to be used in cars nowadays.

Back in my Peugeot days the 306s still used a mercury switch at the end of the 90's though!

As far as I know, all Mk1 Ka's use a switch connected to the latch in the tailgate.

The switch is the grey block with 3 wires here:

.....and the micro switch looks like this

Thanks for all the suggestions.

This KA doesn’t have any contact pins, so that one is out.

Also, the latching/switching mechanism is in the boot lid and there is just a striking plate on the body. Did they really route the light all the way up into the tailgate? I will certainly check though.

Yes. The switch on the latch is used to send a signal to the GEM (or BCM) to say the boot is open. The GEM uses that info for many things like the Alarm System (if fitted) the remote boot opening button (if fitted) the instrument cluster warning to show the boot is open (if fitted) also to tell the central locking system, not to lock the boot when the tailgate is open. Lastly the GEM uses the information to turn on the boot light !! 😀

I think the master cylinder is directly connected to the pedal on the Mk1 Ka.  Using a very short pin across from the pedal to the plastic rod on the MC.

Thank you for that information

Kind regards
